Announcing the third biennial
William Carlos Williams Society Conference:

Conference title:
“William Carlos Williams’s Paterson: The Province of the Poem”

Location: William Paterson University, Wayne, New Jersey

Thursday, 18th June – Saturday, 20th June 2009.

Call for Papers
Proposals are welcome from scholars wishing to participate in a round-table conference to showcase work-in-progress on topics relating to any aspect of William Carlos Williams’s long poem, Paterson.

The format of the conference will allow for participants’ papers (15-20 pages) to be circulated in advance of the meeting. At the meeting each participant will be allotted one hour within which time they will introduce their work for 10-15 minutes thus leaving ample time for questions and discussion. The discussions will take place on Friday 19th June and Saturday 20th June, with a reception and guest presentation to open proceedings on Thursday evening (18th June). This year’s guest speaker and respondent to the papers will be Steven Gould Axelrod, Professor of English at the University of California, Riverside.

The conference will also incorporate visits to New Jersey locales within the province of the poem, such as the Paterson Falls themselves.

There is no conference fee.
